Ice Cave

DESCRIPION:

A glacier cave is a cave formed within the ice of a glacier. Most glacier caves are started by water running through or under the glacier. This water often originates on the glacier’s surface through melting, entering the ice at a moulin and exiting at the glacier’s snout at base level.

Some glacier caves are formed b geothermal heat from volcanic vents or hotsprings beneath the ice.

QUICK FACTS:

Available: November - March

Duration: 4 - 5 hours in total. The duration of the tour depends on few things, how far we need to drive, how far we have to walk and how complicated the ice cave is to get to.

Difficulty: Easy / Moderate

Pickup information: Jokulsarlon parking lot, (optionally Skaftafell National Park)
